This page is dedicated to all the residences/censuses of my Hallidays, and other individuals that appear in my family tree. It is my aim to give as much information about each residence as possible, and also to help give an idea of the movements of each family.
I have listed each residence, along with the current occupiers, address, website, map location, notes, census table and transcribed census documents. I am only transcribing the residences/families that I am interested in. Typically each census displays 3 or 4 neighbouring residences/families.
I have made up a census table (where indicated) by extracting only the names, relationship to the head of household and ages for each census I have. I have not included any servants, etc. This allows you to compare what families were living at each address more easily.

Notes: I don't know when Barfil was purchased, but it was probably sometime in the early to mid 1900's - it was sold in July 1990. There was an article in a local paper 'The Standard' about the new owners of the farm, dated February 1993, which can be viewed by clicking on the following links:

Cardenden Cottages, 12
Current Occupier: Unknown
Address:
12 Cardenden Cottages
Cardenden
Fife
Map: View the location on a map CLICK HERE
Notes: I don't know if these cottages still exist, but 12 Cardenden Cottages was the address of Helen Black when she died in 1946. Helen Black and her sons were the last family that I know of that lived in Slacks (she was the widow of Robert Halliday). I don't know exactly what happened to Helen Black after Slacks, but I know she got remarried to Thomas Richardson, then I think they went to Cardenden, Fife. She got remarried again to James Andrew Wilson, who survived her. Her sons were John Halliday, Robert James Halliday, Bruce Halliday (although I don't know when he died, so I don't know if he went to Cardenden) and William George Halliday.
Helen Black also had a daughter with her second husband - the daughter was called Mary Fotheringham Richardson (she died when she was 3 yrs old) - I don't know of any other children.

Fell
Current Occupier: Unknown
Address:
Fell Farm
Crocketford Road
Dumfries
Map: View the location on a map CLICK HERE
Notes: Fell was home to the Hallidays in the mid to late 1900's. This includes my uncle John Halliday & Isabella Milne, and their son & daughter. When John & Isabella retired and sold up and moved to Dalbeattie, the Barbours at Auchengibbert bought the farm. All the farm buildings were knocked down, leaving only the farm house standing. I believe the house is rented out, and the land has been absorbed into Auchengibbert farm.

Huggans
Current Occupier: None
Address:
None - ruin
Map: View the location on a map CLICK HERE
Notes: Huggans was occupied by the Fergusons in 1851, but it is now a ruin, which can barely be seen. It sits at the crossroads, next to the Fell Hill quarry. On a 1799 map of Meikle Kirkland there appears to be a spring named Huggans Hole near to the location of the building, which is probably how the cottage got it's name. The land the ruin sits on is part of Fell Farm, although it is now separated by the current road.

Notes: Moat, situated near Moat Drive in the village of Lochfoot, became the home of James Halliday (originally from Slacks) and his wife Elisabeth Laurie (originally from Under-The-Brae) and their sons, around the 1860's. This was their home before they moved to Little Milton.

Senwick Park
Current Occupier: Unknown
Address:
Senwick
Borgue
Kirkcudbright
Website: www.senwick-house-residential-home.com
Map: View the location on a map CLICK HERE
Notes: Senwick Park is most likely to be situated in Senwick, near Borgue. I can't find an exact location for any place named Senwick Park - this name may no longer be in use, or it may not have been recorded correctly on the census. I have included a website link for Senwick House, now a nursing home, which was possibly the heart of Senwick and all its' properties. Senwick Park was home to the Jamiesons in 1901.

Slacks
Current Occupier: J M Kirk & Sons
Address:
Slacks Farm
Lochfoot
Dumfries
DG2 8NU
Map: To view the location on a map CLICK HERE
Notes: Slacks is the earliest residency that I have for the Hallidays, and was first occupied by Robert Halliday and his wife, Sarah Halliday. The last Halliday occupants that I know of were Helen Black (widow of Robert & Sarahs grandson, Robert Halliday) and their four sons. I think Helen sold up not long after her husband died - she remarried another two times, and ended up in Cardenden, Fife, with her sons.

West Glenarm
Current Occupier: Unknown
Address:
West Glenarm
Crocketford Road
Dumfries
DG2 8QN
Map: View the location on a map CLICK HERE
Notes: West Glenarm is one of the neighbouring farms of Meikle Kirkland. None of my ancestors ever lived there - so why did I add it to this list? In 1851 there was an Alexander McNeillie residing at Meikle Kirkland Farm - at the same time there was a different Alexander McNeillie residing at West Glenarm - with only a few years separating their ages, and I haven't been able to figure out their connection to one another - although they were likely to be cousins...but that's just a guess. One of the West Glenarm McNeillies married a Kissock.

Whiteyard
Current Occupier: Unknown
Address:
Whiteyard
Lochfoot
Dumfries
DG2 8NY
Map: View the location on a map CLICK HERE
Notes: Whiteyard was the home to the Andersons in 1851. John Halliday from Slacks married Catherine Anderson from Whiteyard. Catherines sister, Janet, married Joseph McKeachie. Their daughter, Mary Jane McKetchie (slight change of spelling) married a William Halliday - as far as I know this William Halliday was no relation to my Hallidays, although I don't know for sure. Mary Jane McKetchie and William Halliday resided at Milton of Buittle (Stepend) Farm, near Haugh of Urr. I have been in touch with a John Halliday - his grandfather, Christopher Halliday, was William Hallidays brother.
